📮 I'm about to hit the post office and send all the pre-orders of I Know What You're Hiding!

I first pitched this story to my agent in 2017, and it's very exciting to be so close to sharing it with the world. If you know a young teen who loves creepy mysteries, this is your last chance to pre-order a signed copy for them. I'm also selling autographed copies of a few other titles if you want to double up and save on shipping. But don't wait, because I refuse to go to the post office more than four times a year, so tomorrow I'll be marking all stock as unavailable.

🍎 I've been reading Hemlock & Silver by T. Kingfisher.

The main character, Anja, is a healer who specialises in poisons, and has been summoned by the king to treat the princess, who is gravely ill. The king has already lost one daughter, when the queen cut out her heart. He will do anything to save the other. Anja quickly rules every known toxin, and starts to suspect Princess Snow is hiding something. But what? Could it have something to do with the mirror, mirror on her wall?

I have a long history of missing the obvious, so I didn't realise Hemlock & Silver was a retelling of Snow White until the poisoned apple showed up. I'm glad, because remixed fairytales aren't really my thing, but this one excels on every level. Anja is a wonderful narrator, simultaneously dry, awkward and obsessive. Her slow-burn romance with her bodyguard is downplayed but fun. The magical element takes time to emerge, but when it does, it lands with a chilling thud (then scuttles away on hundreds of human fingers). Most of all, I loved the sentences, each of which gleams like a well-polished mirror, reflecting the fantasy world so clearly the reader feels like they could step right into it. Highly, highly recommended.
